College of Charleston professor Andrew Miller is not alone in believing that the best universities for science are ones that focus on teaching and research rather than teaching and exams.
Miller is one of many scientists who think that the humanities and social sciences are the only way to get to the heart of the subject matter, and that they have the best chance of producing the most effective research and teaching.
“I think the best schools for science in America today are in the humanities,” Miller said.
“If you’re looking for the humanities, you want to be in the sciences, and then the social sciences.
So if you’re really in the social, then you have the humanities.
If you’re in the arts, then it’s in the music, then the visual arts, the fine arts, and so on.”
Miller, an associate professor of chemistry at Charleston State University, said the best places for students to study the sciences include a liberal arts university, a medical school, or a university of arts and sciences.
The best schools are also in the areas where students will need to earn a bachelor’s degree in a field that has a strong presence in the academic and economic realms, he said.
In addition to humanities and science, Miller believes that students should focus on research and education.
“The most important thing to me is education,” he said, adding that students are also the most important stakeholders in the university experience.
He believes that the university should be a place where students can learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and not just an area of study for academics.
For students, Miller said, the best place to learn is at a public university, where there is a large group of students that have similar interests.
“I would never say you need a master’s degree,” he added.
“You need a PhD, but if you want the PhD, you can get it.”
The University of Southern California, where Miller is a professor of sociology and professor emeritus, has about 50 percent female enrollment, he noted.
While he is not in favor of a women-only curriculum, Miller does support having a women’s campus in the future.
“If you have a diverse campus, the diversity of the student body is going to be very important,” he explained.
Students should have a wide range of interests and not feel constrained by one discipline, Miller added.
“We’re trying to have a campus where the student community is really diverse,” he emphasized.
There is a lot of diversity in the student population.
I would say in the US, the college population is 65 percent white, 35 percent black, 15 percent Asian, and 6 percent Hispanic,” he noted, adding, “The most diverse campus I’ve ever seen in the world is at UC Berkeley, where you have over 60 percent white students.”

The university has a long history of diversity, and the diversity has improved since Miller first came to campus in 1986.
“One of the things I think the University has learned is that diversity is important,” Miller added, noting that in the last 10 years, the school has seen an increase in the number of women entering the college.
During his time as a faculty member, Miller was involved in a number of student protests and protests in the 1970s.
Some students at the time were upset about a lack of diversity on campus, but he said that many of the protests were directed at the administration of then-President George Wallace, which was the first president to publicly support racial integration on campus.
“It was a very different time in the history of the university,” Miller explained.
“When you have that kind of pressure to change, I think you get a different kind of thinking.
You don’t get a feeling of being threatened, but you do get a sense of being really anxious.
And I think that’s because the faculty and students were feeling that pressure.”
He said that his students are not just coming to the university for education.
There are also people who come to the University for the purpose of having an educational experience.
“They don’t come here to get a degree, they come here because they want to have an educational opportunity,” he observed.
Another faculty member said that students may not realize how much they care about the environment they are in, and how much it is affecting their life.
Miller said that there is so much to learn from the students.
“When you see how many students we have that want to go to graduate school, and they’re passionate about their education, then they want the best possible education,” Miller
